Welding Procedure Certification
Welding technology certification is confirmation by an enterprise of compliance of production welding procedures with established requirements.
Confirmation of welding production compliance is one of the first tasks facing an enterprise whose products must meet internal and international standards.
The purpose of certification is the effective and correct selection by the manufacturer, from the point of view of existing standards, of methods and materials that allow the production of products of proper quality.
Scope of Application
Technical control and quality control apply to the welding procedure if the manufacturer who conducted the welding procedure certification bears full responsibility for welding performed in accordance with this procedure.
Welding procedures and technical work instructions certified by our specialists guarantee the quality of welded products, reduce the need for expensive rework, and ensure that the enterprise's welders work efficiently.
Welding Technology Certification Services
We develop effective welding programs to meet the requirements of numerous standards, including CSA, ASME, AWS, EN and ISO, as well as marine classification societies such as Lloyds, DNV and ABS. From consultations on proper welding processes to practical advice on ensuring weld quality, we don't just develop procedures - we work with you to ensure that your welding operations are reliable and meet standard requirements. Welding procedures and technical work instructions certified by our specialists guarantee the quality of welded products you manufacture, reduce the need for expensive rework, and ensure that your welders work correctly and productively.
Description of Welding Technology Certification Process
The customer company provides:
- Application filing (not mandatory).
- Welding of samples depending on required qualification.
- Preliminary Welding Procedure Specification pWPS.
- Certificates for base materials and welding materials.
RBI Concept provides:
- Expert presence during certification.
- Analysis of pWPS.
- Supervision of welding process, recording of welding parameters and correction of pWPS (partially this procedure can be transferred to the customer's welding production supervisor).
- Visual inspection after welding.
- Sending samples to laboratory.
- Coordination of test scope with laboratory.
- Document review.
- Preparation of evaluation results.
- Issuance of welding procedure certification protocol – WPQR (welding procedure qualification record).
Welding Technology Certification Process
An RBI Concept expert comes to the production facility to check compliance. The expert determines whether there is sufficient necessary equipment at the production facility, whether there are staffing problems, and whether labor, fire safety and other standards are observed. The expert studies the suitability of technologies used at this production facility. Checks the equipment used in work that produces products meeting established quality criteria. In parallel, the expert checks all materials used in work - metal or artificial polymers (polyethylene, plastic, HDPE, etc.) depending on production specifics. All this is also subject to certification and quality verification.
The control welded joint performed during certification undergoes a series of tests. Depending on standard requirements, various tests may be conducted:
Approximate List of Tests
- strength tests, such as transverse tensile tests, bending tests or maximum allowable load tests;
- Charpy impact bending tests;
- metallographic analysis;
- shear tests;
- fatigue strength tests;
- microscopic studies;
- non-destructive testing.
Our Accreditations
We have accreditation for compliance with:
- PED 2014/68/EC, which is mainly used by manufacturers of pressure equipment.
- EN ISO / IEC 17024 - EA BAS Accreditation, can be used in all areas of production except PED.
Standards Applied in Certification:
EN ISO 15614-1-12, EN ISO 15613, EN ISO 14555, and others.
