Expediting

For any Customer, the main criteria for selecting a Supplier are three components: quality, optimal cost, and acceptable delivery times. However, even if the Supplier meets all criteria and successfully passes technical audits, there are risks associated with poor quality and untimely supply. In this regard, in recent years there has been a trend of increasing interest in so-called expediting, or the service of tracking production timelines and volumes, as well as direct risk assessment in fulfilling order requirements and issuing recommendations to prevent delivery schedule disruptions.

Expediting. Control of imported products from RBI Concept

The main task of the RBI concept expediting specialist is to monitor the progress of deliveries and track possible production delays that are related, for example, to the absence of auxiliary materials or concluded contracts, staff shortages, equipment wear or repair. Thus, unlike technical inspection of production quality, as a result of which the customer receives only a report on production status and product quality, expediting implies an active role of the expert not only in obtaining reliable information about the status of production, shipment and/or delivery, but also in assessing risks when fulfilling orders, developing measures and recommendations for preventing and warning against possible disruptions of finished product delivery schedules to the Customer.

In addition, according to the experience of RBI concept's Western specialists, the expediter's responsibilities may also include assistance in eliminating identified difficulties: negotiations with sub-suppliers, clarifying reasons for untimely material delivery and compiling reports, organizing interconnection between departments to ensure proper communication levels.

Expediting can be conducted both throughout the full production cycle, that is, from the stage of technical documentation approval by the Customer to direct delivery, and separately at any production stage or as a response measure to already disrupted delivery schedules. Most often, problems may arise at the following stages:

  • Coordination, approval and provision of technical documentation for production.
  • Procurement of materials, components and related services.
  • Product manufacturing.
  • Assembly and consolidation.
  • Inspection and acceptance testing.
  • Marking and packaging of assembled units.
  • Delivery to the Customer.

In addition, expediting may provide for the possibility of determining areas in which certain Customer actions may influence schedule compliance, for example, in case of untimely transfer of technical specifications or necessary specifications to the Supplier or their non-approval by a certain date.

Cases of RBI Concept experts combining expediting procedures with direct technical audits/inspections of suppliers are not uncommon. This trend is especially evident in the construction industry. Here, expediting complements construction process inspection procedures, identifying all possible causes of facility completion delays and providing necessary recommendations for preventing delivery schedule non-compliance. In this case, a systematic method of organizing production work control is ensured. If technical inspection provides a report on facility construction progress, then applying expediting will ensure full coverage of all processes, which will help the Customer:

  • track timely delivery of construction materials and equipment;
  • engage necessary specialists in facility construction;
  • control all production processes for compliance with technological norms and requirements;
  • exclude failures and untimely deliveries of construction equipment;
  • improve production performance.

Proper implementation of supplier expediting services is important for planned execution of construction work, timely delivery of equipment and materials, and reduces potential penalty sanctions related to non-compliance of construction completion dates with planned schedules.

Our company's specialists are ready to help you ensure the highest quality phased control of supplier work execution.
