Training on Directive 2014/68/EC

Training course on the requirements of Directive 2014/68/EU regarding the design, manufacture, final inspection and testing of pressure equipment.

Includes consultations on all matters related to product compliance confirmation with directive 2014/68/EU requirements in order to optimize time and material costs. You will receive complete information about the Directive's scope of application: who it applies to, what its requirements and documentation are, what CE marking should be like, how the conformity declaration procedure to the Directive proceeds, etc.

Who the course is for

The course is useful for participants in the equipment implementation process: in particular, manufacturers who must guarantee equipment compliance with prescribed standards at each stage, as well as engineers and inspectors in the oil refining industry; personnel responsible for implementing risk-based control programs within the plant; equipment operation engineers, non-destructive testing specialists, materials scientists, corrosion specialists, technical supervision inspectors responsible for maintaining the integrity of operating process equipment; responsible specialists making decisions about equipment fitness for continued operation.

Course objectives

  1. Obtaining basic knowledge about the "Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU".
  2. Obtaining information about the scope and field of application of Directive 2014/68/EU.
  3. Obtaining basic knowledge about the inspection process of main equipment in the oil refining industry, as well as necessary methods for its implementation.
  4. In-depth, detailed presentation and understanding of qualitative and quantitative approaches to this type of inspection and knowing how to use this knowledge for planning inspections, and using the results as input data for equipment condition assessment.

The course will help understand issues of design, manufacturing and conformity assessment of equipment, specialists will provide simple practical advice to distinguish how to conduct conformity assessment of various elements and how to classify them.

Course participants will become familiar with new approaches to technical harmonization and standardization, the scope of the Directive, main groups of pressure equipment and its categorization, detailed obligations of economic operators, classification of media, requirements for CE marking and EU declaration of conformity, conformity assessment modules that include and do not include the manufacturer's quality system, as well as the content of the Directive's technical file and its essential requirements. Certificates are issued upon course completion. The continuation of the course is the second block on risk assessment.

Course program

Day one

  1. New approach to technical harmonization and standardization - Council resolution 85/C 136/01 and Council decision 93/465/EEC.
  2. Scope of the Directive.
  3. Field of application of the Pressure Equipment Directive. What equipment is not covered by the Directive.
  4. Main groups of pressure equipment. Equipment categorization (tables). Two groups of working fluids.
  5. Obligations of economic operators (manufacturer, authorized representative, importers, distributors). Identification. Cases where manufacturer obligations apply to importers and distributors.
  6. Classification of working media. Group 1 - dangerous.

Day two

  1. EU declaration of conformity and CE marking. Difference between marking with notified body participation and without participation. EU declaration of conformity (N XXXX)*.
  2. Conformity assessment modules - IV categories.
  • Module A - internal production control.
  • Module A2 - internal production control plus supervised pressure equipment checks at random intervals.
  • Module B - EU type examination of product.
  • Module B - EU type examination of design.
  • Module C2 - conformity to type based on internal production control plus supervised pressure equipment checks at random intervals.
  • Module F - conformity to type based on product verification.
  • Module G - conformity based on unit verification.
  • Module D - conformity to type based on quality assurance of the production process.
  • Module D1 - quality assurance of the production process.
  • Module E - conformity to type based on product quality assurance.
  • Module E1 - quality assurance of final pressure equipment inspection and testing.
  • Module H - conformity based on full quality assurance.
  • Module H1 - conformity based on full quality assurance plus design examination.

Day three

  1. Content of the Directive's technical file.
  2. Useful references.
  3. Essential safety requirements set out in the Directive:
  • general provisions;
  • design;
  • manufacturing;
  • materials;
  • special requirements for certain pressure equipment;
  • special quantitative requirements;
  • allowable stresses;
  • joint coefficients;
  • pressure limiting devices;
  • hydrostatic test pressure;
